Southern Signals
Colour Light Signals

Some single post signals.

Starting signal Left:The three aspect Up London starter at Lewes. Note that here the colour light head has been mounted on the former semaphore post!

The same signal at Three Bridges as was seen on the introductory page. In this view it can be seen quite clearly that the turnout is set for the Crawley and Horsham line. The signal displays a red aspect but if it were to be cleared to a proceed aspect, then the Junction Indicator's lights would also be illuminated.

Running signal

Starting signal A signal to the north of Horley station displaying a single yellow aspect indicating that the next signal is at red. The line it applies to, of course, is the second from the right, the down slow, whilst the train in the picture is on the up fast line.

Starting and shunt signal Left:A three aspect signal at Boxhill. The green aspect indicates that the next signal is showing either yellow or green.

Right: Two more four aspect signals at Horley. That on the left would advise a driver about to pass it to proceed with caution as the following signal is showing red. The one on the right indicates the next signal is double yellow or green.

Two arm signal
