West London Junction

West London Junction was one of several built on a bowstring girder bridge. The L&SWR installed their electro-pneumatic equipment here, but after the grouping this was replaced with new miniature lever frames by the Southern Railway, in conjunction with the widening of the lines to Waterloo. Then in 1990 the 'box was closed when the new Power Signalbox at Wimbledon was commissioned.
The framework above the 'box was the support for a wartime steel roof, erected as an air-raid precaution, now removed, see Clapham Junction 'A'.
Photographed on 28 February 1983.
