| East Grinstead Signalbox, formerly East Grinstead Low
Level, in June 1984. The 'box once controlled the route through East
Grinstead from Oxted in the north towards Horsted Keynes to the south, but all
that is now left for the 'box is terminating trains on the truncated line.

The frame inside the Signalbox photographed in April 1984. The
spaces where there were once levers indicate the reduction in the
'box's functions. Note the cloth on the handle of the lever the
Signalman is leaning on, this is to prevent perspiration having an adverse
effect on the mild steel of the handle. At the time of this photograph the
sidings shown on the right of the diagram were still in use for storing stock
overnight. These sidings, formerly the line south, went out onto Imberhorne
Viaduct, so must have been amongst the most expensive sidings in the country!
