Eastbourne

Eastbourne Signalbox as it was in June 1984. Opened 102 years earlier in 1882, it was originally fitted with a 108 lever Saxby & Farmer 'Rocker and Grid Iron' frame. This was replaced on 14 November 1934 with a 72 lever frame. photograph by kind permission of Alan Elliott

Twenty years later and the 'box is now divided into two sections with the old part of the box still having the levers and a diagram of the station from before it was all changed to colour light signals. The modern panel is in the new part, where the Signalman has an easier job! photograph by Edmund Copping
