An immaculate Jaffacake Cep Nº1529 is the leading unit on
the first day of the Hastings electric services. Behind it in the platform can

occasion.

| In 1987 a 4 Cep in "Jaffacake" livery arrives at
Maidstone West with a train from Paddock Wood to Strood. This unusual but quite
pleasing livery was introduced when the Hastings line was electrified in 1986
and the 4 Ceps so painted carried the name "1066 electrics".
Initially confined to the Hastings line they soon started to appear elsewhere,
especially at weekends when this photograph was taken.

| A vanished scene on the Hastings line, at West St
Leonards, where refurbished 4 Cep 1600 stands in the down platfrom during
engineering works one weekend. 1600 is wearing the 'Jaffa Cake' LSE
sector livery, which survived on this line longer than elsewhere, together with
the '1066 Electrics' branding. Eventually the Hastings line's
dedicated pool of 411s was integrated with the rest of the South Eastern fleet
and the route lost much of its special identity.
