4-Sub (Class 405)

4732 One 4 Sub unit - Nº4732- remained preserved thanks to BR. Seen here in a non authentic Southern Railway livery running a shuttle service into Cannon Street during the Greenwich 150 celebrations on 23rd August 1986 it was subsequently taken out of service and is now (2002) at the Coventry Railway Centre (see later page).

Nº4732 is seen again, this time alongside a class 319 unit at the Network Day at Waterloo 24th October 1987. It is interesting to compare the two generations of cab front design, neither particularly elegant! Headcode 30 is the Waterloo to Hampton Court service.
