| As e-groups go the Southern E-Group has been running a
long time. We frequently get asked questions or topics are raised that we have
covered before. This is not a bad thing as new information usually comes to
light each time we go over a topic. However before asking a question or
starting a new topic members are advised first to check what has gone before.
Alternatively it is always entertaining and instructive to trawl through the
extensive information and data we have on file!
There are two ways of doing this, both require access to Yahoogroups which in turn you will need a Yahoogroups log-in and for the SEmG to be selected as one of your groups. The first way is to trawl through the Yahoogroups archive. This is a store of all previous e mails (unless deleted) in the order they arrived. The archive has a search facility, however the e mails are otherwise in a raw form with repetitions of quotes and off topic comments. You will also have to navigate and read around the animated advertisements. E mails in the archive go back to August 2000. The second way is to download files from the edited highlights section and read and enjoy them at your leisure. What are the edited highlights? As the name suggests they are our version of Readers' Digest. E mails from carefully selected topics are collated and edited to provide a much easier read. E mails from the selected topics are assembled to read naturally, un-necessary repeated text is deleted, off topic diversions are deleted, the layout of the text is consistent and elements of spelling and grammar are corrected. Topics selected for the edited highlights tend to be enduring and factual rather than temporal and opinionated. Material in the edited highlights goes back to January 1999 and covers conversations until the end of May 2003. The edited highlights can be found in the SEmG Yahoogroups files section (where you will also find lots of useful other data), Regularly Raised Topics folder. Files are currently saved in rich text format (*.rtf), chosen by members as the most adaptable for this purpose. |
